Sassonero – DOC Colli Euganei Merlot

The Sassonero is a steep hill located in Arquà Petrarca.

Ca' Lustra Sassonero MerlotBlack, “negro” for the local people, it is the strand of dark trachytis that raised the sea floor, but so is the surface of red limestone scale that here is almost scorched by the summer sun.

In this wonderful Mediterranean environment, surrounded by broom, almond and olive trees, we cultivate three hectares of highly concentrated Merlot, which ages for three years in oak barrels before being put into bottle.

Vintage: 2009
Grape varieties: Merlot 100%
Alcohol: 14,5 % vol.

Vineyard: It is on the south side of the Sassonegro in Arquà Petrarca, red limestone scale, warm, well drained and shallow. The plants were renovated between 1997 and 2004, at average density and cordon spur trained.

Vinification: It ferments part in steel and part in oak barrels, with 15-20 days maceration. It ages then for three years in barrels and casks.

Service and pairing: Uncork a few hours before, serving around 18 degrees. Excellent with Paduan hen “in tocio”, or with a good homemade salami.

Winery: Az. Agr. Ca’ Lustra s.a.s. di Zanovello Franco
